Christian Dior: Designer of Dreams

Christian Dior: Designer of Dreams

Paris is always a good idea but even more so when there is the chance to see the works of Christian Dior in person. The Christian Dior: Designer of Dreams exhibition at Musée Des Arts Décoratifs was the central focus to my last visit to Paris and I’m going to say it straight out; if you have any interest in fashion and art go and see this exhibition! Time to fly away

Before I get stuck into this month’s same but different I want to give you a quick wrap-up of last month. June was all about photography and doing something with all those snaps. I had great fun taking my camera with me nearly everywhere I went and even more fun changing some of the pictures I had hanging in the house. It’s something I’m going to try to keep doing as much as possible as changing a photograph can really lift a room without spending a fortune!

lovetomtom same but different for July and August is about one of my favourite things; travel! Whether you are on this side of the world planning summer holidays or on the other side daydreaming about escaping winter, it is the perfect time for travel and adventures. Actually travel is good at anytime!

I feel like everyone is on holidays at the moment and while I’m counting down to my own, I’m going to live through others’ to reminisce about places I’ve been and to discover new places I want to go. While I wish I could overload you with two months full of photographs of my own travels and adventures, I’ll have to pretend instead and share some pictures I’m drooling over. I’ll include all the links to everyone’s Instragram and websites so be sure to spread the love. What a hard task, checking out talented photographers and exotic places!

There’s no better way to start than with Gray Malin. Some of you may be familiar with Gray Malin’s work but if, not the only way I can describe his photography is that it’s like a big ginormous bowl of your favourite sweets. I never tire of looking at his pictures and when I grow up I want to have one of his photographs hanging in my house.

June is here already, the sun is shining, yes I said the sun is shining and it’s time for a new same but different theme. This month I’ve decided to focus on photographs. Taking them, printing them, hanging them and changing them around.

I always take photographs and I mean always, but what do I do with them? I’m currently working on a project that requires me to print some of them and it hit me, why don’t I do this more often? I take a lot of photographs on my phone but this month my camera is going to be my third eye and I’m going to take every opportunity to snap away at any old thing!

The other thing that got me thinking this month is the weather. I have a lot of photographs around the house and with the sun shining I thought now is the time for a little spruce up, so they are going on rotation. It’s amazing how the same frame with a different photograph or even moving it to a different spot in the house can freshen things up. Better still, besides printing the photographs, this is not going to cost me a cent!

Here are a few things that have caught my eye so far. Colours, patterns, shapes, inspiration and some old favourites that are getting another look.

lovetomtom loves Instagram

I will be the first to admit it, I am addicted to my phone. I always have it close by and find it very difficult not to check it every few minutes. Ridiculous I know, but we all have our weaknesses.

One thing I love and will not apologise for, is Instagram. Endless hours of discoveries that satisfy all my creative needs. It’s not just looking at other people’s images that fills my days, I like to see how people use Instagram, the way they style their images and what stories they are telling.

My Instagram feed is a real mix. I love checking in on my favourite accounts and then stumbling across new and wonderful images and people to follow. Everything from makeup brands, fashion houses, illustrators, interior designers, foodies, favourite shops, shops I wish I could visit in person and vintage lovers. They all fill my screen (and head) with stunning images and inspiration, and I thought I would show you some of my current favourites.

You can probably guess already that the likes of Valentino and Giambattista Valli  are high on my  list. Not only are their products pure beauty but the images and overall styling fill me with such envy!

Beth Kirby of Local Milk is another account filled with stunning images. There is something about her styling that makes me want to jump into her world! Her images (and blog) are really worth a look.

Brittany Watson Jespen of The house that lars built satisfies a whole different side of me and her account can only be described as colourful, playful happiness.

Next up is Alea Toussaint. Her prints and patterns again make me so envious (in the nicest possible way) that someone can create such beautiful things. I secretly wonder what print she would design for me!

For all my travel needs it’s hard to go past Hervé in Paris and Rebecca Plotnick.

As for food, Molly yeh takes the cake (get it!?!) and makes me want to stick my head in whatever wonderful creation she is making.

When it comes to makeup and beauty, the usual suspects are there. NARS, Charlotte Tilbury, Lisa Eldridge, Mary Greenwell and the list goes on and on and on!

Last but definitely not least is Kenneth Brewster Edwards. I don’t encourage wishing to be anyone other than oneself but this account is for the dancer in me and yes, part of me wishes it was me both in the photographs and taking the photographs.

I should make the point that I follow people/accounts/brands because I like them, so the above is just a glimpse into what is filling my screen. It would be a very long post if I included them all!

Are you on Instagram or have any favourites? Leave your links below in the comments and I will take a peek. And of course, don’t forget lovetomtom is on Instagram too so if you’re not already following, please do!

I’m so excited I could oui!

Did someone say croissant?

The time has come for me to get out my passport again and I’m so excited I could oui! In a few days I will be packing my bags and heading to one of my favourite cities; Paris.

Despite visiting this fabulous city numerous times and even having lived there for a short while, my excitement never fades!

I should warn you in advance, on my return from my brief visit, there will be lots of photographs of gateaux, croissants (is a croissant a gateau?), more gateaux and my new purchase(s)! I always like to mark each trip with a special purchase and what better place to buy something fabulous than Paris!

(and a bit of wind down)

It is that time of year, the shops are full, people are stocking up like the world is ending, seems like everyone has some kind of germ (me included) and some might say my pj season started a bit too early but I disagree. That sums up the past month really. Throw in a  new shade of lipstick (hot pink!) and a few pictures you may have missed and there you have it!

Red shoes go with everything!

If only every winters day was like this

Before I look too far into 2015 can I say a very big thank you to all the support, followers, likes and comments so far. lovetomtom started as a fun idea and I’m glad to say that hasn’t changed one bit. I have so  much fun writing and sharing this blog and it means a lot that you take the time to read it!

As far as 2015 goes there is some really fun things planned for lovetomtom and I can’t wait to share them.

However you’re spending the festive season stay warm or put  sunscreen on, eat lots of good food, have a big belly laugh or a few if possible and don’t forget to look out for your loved ones, near and far.

Tea anyone?
